Veterans appreciation drive-thru luncheons planned Aug. 6

Rep. Bob Brooks will host drive-thru Veterans Appreciation Luncheons from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 12 in the parking lots of Mogie’s Restaurant and Irish Pub, 3210 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, and Deer Creek Diner, 13 Creighton Russellton Road, West Deer.

Veterans and a guest will receive a boxed lunch. Reservations are required by Aug. 8. To register, call 724-335-2790 and specify at which location you will pick up your meal.

Free concert scheduled Tuesday in West Deer

Highpointe at Rebecca will host a free outdoor concert featuring ‘50s and ‘60s oldies group the Pittsburgh Belairs at 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at the facility, 1871 Highpointe Lane, West Deer.

Tours of the campus will be available at 2 p.m. and free parking is available. Registration is required. To register call Julie Spirnock at 724-444-1521.

Free opioid overdose prevention and Naloxone training will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rural Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, 135 Little Deer Creek Valley Road, Indiana Township.

Naloxone training will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and there will be information and resource booths available. Participants will receive a free Naloxone kit. The event is sponsored by the Allegheny County Health Department, Palmer Pharmacy and West Deer EMS.

August: The Allegheny Township Lions rabies clinic is canceled.

Tuesday : The Rather Be Reading Book Club for adults at Apollo Memorial Library will meet at 6 p.m. at the library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Details and membership information: tinyurl.com/yc8c335t.

Aug. 6: The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, 142 Kerr Road, will offer a nature writing workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the center. Author and Pennsylvania Master Naturalist trainee Sandra Stanko will be the instructor. Cost: $8. Must be at least 13 years old to attend. No experience necessary. Reservations required.
